Monica Chappus, 93, of Toronto, Ontario, formerly of Ocala, Florida, USA, was defeated by long-term gastrointestinal cancer in her own bed at home and died with her son by her side at St. Michael's Hospital,Toronto, Ontario on December 30, 2016.
Born on February 5, 1923 in Windsor, Ontario. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, William (Van), on August 22, 2004, in Ocala, Florida.
Monica was one of 14 children born to Ferdinand and Jeanne Chappus in LaSalle, Ontario. She was always proud of her early academic years, though her desire to further her education was not fulfilled. However, she was married on November 8, 1941 in Windsor and often recalled the memorable times spent together with her husband in the RCAF, stationed in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Later, they resided at various locations in Windsor, Ontario. Followed up by 21 years in Detroit, Michigan where she became a licensed beautician. They both retired to Florida in 1977 and eventually settled in Ocala, Florida. Monica returned to Ontario in early 2014 to live with her Son and his Wife who personally cared for her. Assisted with the kind and thoughtful Personal Support Workers at; Total Home and Health Care Services, Toronto, Ontario.
She always expressed her love for all the Survivors, those being, her only child, Richard and Ana (wife), her two Sisters, Alexandra, Teresa and their families, all of Toronto, Ont., a Sister, Marie Diotte,(predeceased Husband, Ray) of LaSalle, Ont., a Brother, Richard (Dick) Chappus (Wife, Gerry) of Windsor, Ont. and their large family, a niece Renay Harball (Husband, Andy) of LaSalle, Ont. and their 2 amazing children, a nephew, Pat Diotte and Family, LaSalle, Ont. a niece Cathy Chappus and Family, LaSalle, Ont. and lastly acknowledgment to the numerous family relatives throughout Canada and the USA that emanated from Monica's other 13 siblings. Visitations will be held Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Families First, 2130 Front Rd. LaSalle, 519-969-5841 from 2 pm until 5 pm. A pray vigil will be held at 4:30 pm.
On Monday January 9, 2017 friends are invited to join the family after 10am, followed by Funeral Mass at 11am at, Sacred Heart Church (219 Sacred Heart Dr., LaSalle). Cremation to follow with an interment at a later date.
