DEARSTONE, Joan Alice
71 years, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2017 at Otsego Memorial Hospital, Gaylord, MI. She was born August 27, 1945 in Vankleek Hill, Ontario to the late Stuart and Elsie Curran. She married Keith Dearstone on May 6, 2011 in Leamington and together they celebrated 5 years of marriage before her passing. Joan worked as a teacher in education, predominately teaching elementary school. She retired from the Essex County School Board after 30 plus years of service. Joan was a member of the Federation of Women Teacher’s Association of Ontario for many years. In her free time, Joan enjoyed cooking and sewing and was a member of the Thunder Bay Quilting Guild. She liked to read romance novels, especially Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts. Her family and grandchildren were important to her and she valued the time spent with them. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her loving husband Keith of Atlanta, Michigan; sons James (Lorhae Thompson) Meek of Calgary, Alberta, David (Josie) Meek of Leamington, Ontario, Gord (Ashley) Meek of Penhold, Alberta; daughter Sherie (Craig) Stephenson of Round Rock, Texas, stepson Mark (Joy) Dearstone of Waterford, Michigan; stepdaughter Jodi (Craig) Parsons of Whitmore Lake, Michigan; 12 grandchildren and sister Doris (Dave Gray) Curran of Blyth, Ontario. Predeceased by her grandson Braxton.
